CHRISTMAS TRADITIONS IN GREECE
During Christmas we use to celebrate :
1) By decorating our homes traditionally with a ship (a Greek custom) as Greece is a country surrounded by sea instead of a Christmas tree (although lately Christmas trees have also come into our lives).
2) We eat traditional sweets called Melomakarona, Kourabiedes and Diples. The first and last have as a main ingredient honey. The second are covered all over with sugar.
3) For the celebration of New Year we make a special cake called Vasilopita. In it we place a coin and the one who finds it is considered to be lucky throughout the year.
4) Our traditional Christmas dish is roast stuffed turkey with chestnuts.
