Visit to Patras, Greece February'16

On our visit to Greece we stayed in the city of Patras with local families and worked at  14TH  HIGH  SCHOOL  OF  PATRAS.

We worked on the topic of Global problems. Students did some research on different subtopics, such as global warming, pollution, greenhouse effect , etc and did presentations in Patras, sharing their results with the other partners.

Innovative lessons on physics

We were given a lesson on buoyancy of liquids and objects. Students could experience this property thanks to group work and clear guidance from one of the Greek teachers.

A collage on global problems

Once we presented all the info we gathered on global problems, students from the different countries in the project created a collective collage to show the work done on this topic before and during the visit to Greece. It remains in Patras High school to be seen by all the students there.

As a way of contributing to preserve our environment all the participants in the visit planted some bulbs in the school backyard which we expect will bloom in spring.

Visits in Greece

But not everything was work! We also enjoyed beautiful places, full of nature, full of culture, full of ancient history...

Mount Olympia, the cradle of the Olympic Games.

Strophylia ,a natural reserve in the Peloponesse.

One of the ways of linking the Peloponesse with the peninsula is the Rio bridge. We enjoyed great views, despite being a windy day...

We could not leave Greece without visiting the jewel of Athens, the Acropolis. We were thrilled to enjoy, almost on our own, the Parthenon. the Cariatides and the rest of the complex with our headmistress, who's a Latin and Greek teacher and loves ancient culture. We went to visit  it on the day we were flying back to Spain so decided to get up early, which was the key. A privilege to enjoy such an amazing place with the first lights of the day and the change of the Greek guard. All in all an unforgettable experience!

Students' impressions on the visit to Patras.

'...we were showed the high school in Patras which seemed so different to our school to me. Later we visited the city hall where the mayor gave us a talk, he spoke so fast and in Greek!!!...'

'The Greek teachers prepared a surprise party for us on the last day of our visit. A  carnival float came into the playground playing loud and lively music and then everybody started to dance and have fun. Some people from a balcony were throwing sweets, too. We enjoyed it a lot and laughed a lot too. The Greek students showed us some typical dances. In the afternoon, the Greek parents cooked some typical meal for all of us and prepared a farewell party. Everything was delicious!...'Carla Lafont.

'...in the house I stayed there were 10 of us, Basiliki's mum, her three cousins, her two brothers, her two aunties and her granny. Later we played Uno ( a cards game) and I surprised them as they didn't know I knew the game and I beat them, hahaha. They cooked a typical Greek meal for dinner, Gyros, which is a type of bread filled with French fries, meat, onion, tomato and lettuce. I really liked it!...' Helena Segarra.
